Stórurð Hike Iceland - A magnificent creations of nature in East Iceland

Stórurð (The Giant Boulders) is one of the unique and magnificent creations of nature in East Iceland. On this hike in Iceland, you will visit this wonderful and unique place “Storurd” that lies below the stunning Dyrfjöll Mountains. It is believed that the boulders area was most likely created by a landslide at the end of the latest Ice Age. The huge rocks were carried by a glacier snout to the present location. It consists of gigantic tuff rocks, charming meadows, and attractive ponds. A truly stunning and unique scenery, like no other you have ever seen.

We walk on marked paths all the way up to this incredible landscape consisting of huge rocks and the beautiful ponds. It is hard to describe the landscape with words, so you just have to come and see it for yourself. The Hike is about 14 km with elevation from 400 to 700 meters depends on which way we choose. We always start and end at Álfheimar Country Hotel
